MURRAY 4-H MEMBER'S QUILT RECEIVES HIGH HONOR!
A Celebration of Textile Art by Nebraska 4-H Youth is now being held thru October 15, 2011 at
the Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery, Department of Textiles, Clothing & Design, College of
Education and Human Sciences on UNL East Campus in the Home Economics Building.
Gallery Hours are Monday thru Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Thirty five Nebraska youth, including one Cass County 4-Her, will have their work showcased
in the 18th annual Celebration of Youth. Items were selected from the thousands of exhibits in
the Clothing, Fashion Show, Home Environment and Quilt Quest departments at the 2011 Nebraska
State Fair. Natalia Nolting, age 13, daughter of Jason and Tasha Nolting of Murray, entered an
intergenerational quilt in the Quilt Quest project area during the Cass County Fair. Her entry was
chosen for Nebraska State Fair competition and selected for the Celebration of Youth event.
On October 15, the department of Textiles, Clothing & Design will host a day of workshops for
the youth and their parents.
The public is invited to the exhibition’s closing event on October 15, 2011 at 5:30 PM in the
auditorium of the Home Economics building. Each exhibitor in the Gallery will give a short
artist’s talk about their piece. The program will be followed by a final opportunity to see the
exhibition in the Hillestad Gallery, and a reception hosted by the Friends of the Robert Hillestad
Textiles Gallery.

Pictured above is Natalia with her grandmother, Barb Nolting, of Plattsmouth
who taught her how to make this quilt.

FIFTEENTH ANNUAL SCHOOLHOUSE FIDDLING BEE
Greenblatt & Seay proudly announce the FIFTEENTH ANNUAL SCHOOLHOUSE FIDDLING BEE. This
historical, hysterical event will take place on Sunday, October 9, at 2:30 PM, downstairs in the Old Avoca,
Nebraska Schoolhouse.
In the Open Division, fiddlers will play a hoedown, a waltz, and a tune of choice. There will also be other
divisions of competition available for the adventurous fiddlers, including a Singing Fiddler's Contest, a
Twin Fiddler's Contest, a Fee-Fi-Faux Fiddler's Contest (fiddle tunes played on any instrument other than
a fiddle), and a Hocus-Pocus Contest, (cross-tuning, sound effects, dancing, etc.), which will give fiddlers
an opportunity to play tunes that are usually not allowed in any other contest. The prizes for the winners in
the Open Division are $100 for 1st place, $50 for 2nd place, and $25 for 3rd place. Prizes will also be
awarded for 1st place in the other contests.
Registration for contestants starts at 1:30 PM the day of the FIDDLING BEE.
