SENATOR PANKONIN ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION FROM LEGISLATURE
(LINCOLN, NE) – State Senator Dave Pankonin of Louisville, Nebraska announced today that he
will resign from his District 2 seat in the Nebraska Legislature effective October 7, 2011. Pankonin
was first elected to the legislature in 2006 and was re-elected in 2010.
“It is with sincere regret that I announce my resignation from the Nebraska Legislature,” Pankonin
wrote in a letter to his legislative colleagues. “It has been an honor and privilege to represent the
citizens of District 2. However, in the spring of last year my responsibilities for our family businesses
changed. After much careful consideration I have concluded that my new obligations mean I can no
longer devote the time that is required to continue in office and represent my constituents effectively.”
Pankonin cited his ongoing involvement with his family’s agricultural equipment dealership and his
added responsibilities with Home State Bank in Louisville, due to the sudden death of the bank’s
president last year. Pankonin’s family has been associated with Home State Bank since it was founded
in 1915.
“The people in District 2 are great people, and they need and deserve a state senator who is able to
give them the best representation possible,” Pankonin said. “I’ve done that the past five years, but I see
new challenges on the horizon with my family’s business interests that are going to take too much time
away from my role as a state senator. It wouldn’t be fair to my constituents to continue in the office without
being able to put in the necessary time and effort to serve them well. My friends and colleagues know
when I take on a job in public service, I do it to the best of my ability. In the future, I wouldn’t be able to give
them my very best, and District 2 deserves a senator who will work hard to represent their interests in the
Nebraska Unicameral,” Pankonin said Wednesday.
“My five years as a state senator have been the highlight of my 19 years of elected public service. I have
especially enjoyed the friendships with my colleagues and the opportunity to contribute to an institution that
I will always respect and treasure. I want to thank everyone for their understanding of my situation and the
difficult decision I must make. My wife Lori and I want to especially thank the citizens of District 2 who placed
their faith and trust in me to serve them in the legislature. That honor will never be forgotten,” Pankonin said.
Pankonin served as a member of the Health and Human Services Committee; the Banking, Commerce and
Insurance Committee; the Revenue Committee and was chairman of the Nebraska Retirement Systems
Committee from 2009-2010.

Help the American Red Cross Prepare for Emergencies by Donating Blood
September is National Preparedness Month, and this year the American Red Cross
encourages all Americans to prepare for emergencies and asks all eligible individuals
to donate blood.
National Preparedness Month is designed to encourage Americans to take simple steps
to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses and communities. It’s the mission
of the Red Cross to help the public prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. One
way you can support this mission is to become a regular blood donor.
“It’s important to have a stable blood supply at all times to help ensure we are prepared to
meet the needs of patients in every emergency,” said Tricia Quinn, CEO of Red Cross Midwest
Blood Services Region. “It can take up to three days for donated blood to be tested and pro-
cessed, and made available for patients. It’s the blood on the shelf when a disaster or emergency
strikes that can save the day.”
All blood types are needed, especially O negative, B negative, and A negative. Type O negative,
the universal blood type, can potentially be transfused to patients with any blood type.
The stability of our nation’s blood supply is in the hands of healthy, volunteer blood donors who
give generously for others in need. Schedule an appointment to donate today to help the Red
Cross prepare for the needs of patients across the country.
For more information on other ways to help prepare for emergencies, visit redcross.org or ready.gov.
How to Donate Blood
Simply call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org to make an appointment
or for more information.
A blood donor card or driver’s license, or two other forms of identification are required at check-in.
Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental permission in some states), weigh at least 110
pounds and are generally in good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and
other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

FIFTEENTH ANNUAL SCHOOLHOUSE FIDDLING BEE
Greenblatt & Seay proudly announce the FIFTEENTH ANNUAL SCHOOLHOUSE FIDDLING BEE. This
historical, hysterical event will take place on Sunday, October 9, at 2:30 PM, downstairs in the Old Avoca,
Nebraska Schoolhouse.
In the Open Division, fiddlers will play a hoedown, a waltz, and a tune of choice. There will also be other
divisions of competition available for the adventurous fiddlers, including a Singing Fiddler's Contest, a
Twin Fiddler's Contest, a Fee-Fi-Faux Fiddler's Contest (fiddle tunes played on any instrument other than
a fiddle), and a Hocus-Pocus Contest, (cross-tuning, sound effects, dancing, etc.), which will give fiddlers
an opportunity to play tunes that are usually not allowed in any other contest. The prizes for the winners in
the Open Division are $100 for 1st place, $50 for 2nd place, and $25 for 3rd place. Prizes will also be
awarded for 1st place in the other contests.
Registration for contestants starts at 1:30 PM the day of the FIDDLING BEE.
