GOLF!

Game Animation

The 13th annual Murray-Beaver Lake Lions Club Golf Fundraiser tournament will be held Saturday, June 15th, 2013.   This fundraiser helps the Lions Club provide services to the Murray-Beaver Lake community in many ways.

The Lions provide support for those needing help with purchasing eyeglasses, hearing aids, and other things essential for a good life.  The Lions also provide help to Conestoga students for school activities and pursuit of excellence.  This year we provided two scholarships to graduating Conestoga seniors.

Last year’s golf tournament allowed us to contribute to the development of the Cougar Hollow at the elementary school.

Below is information for the tournament and a copy of the raffle ticket for seats to the Nebraska and Illinois football game.  Please try to get a team together for the tournament and purchase some raffle tickets.  (They'd make a great Father's Day gift!)

And, remember that the Lions are always looking for new members who would like to support their community.  We are a service organization.

Thanks for your support!

BLOOD DONORS GIVE PATIENTS the CHANCE

to CREATE a SUMMER of STORIES

With summer right around the corner, many people are now planning their summer activities
and vacations. After all, summer is a time to create lifelong memories. When eligible donors
give blood with the American Red Cross, they can also give others time to make their own
memories — watching fireworks, having a picnic, sleeping under the stars, taking a dip or
rooting for the home team.

Blood donations often decline during the summer, when schools are out and vacations are in.
The Red Cross encourages donors to make an appointment to give now to help ensure a stable
supply in the weeks and months ahead, giving patients a chance to create a summer of stories.
Donors who present to give blood between May 23 and 31 in honor of Memorial Day could win
one of five $1,000 American Express gift cards to create their own summer of stories. In addition,
their donations will honor those who gave their life for our country and support those in need of care.
The Red Cross serves about 3,000 hospitals and transfusion centers across the country, including
many Veterans Affairs medical centers.

Learn more and make an appointment to donate blood by visiting redcrossblood.org or calling

 1-800-RED CROSS.

How to donate blood

Simply call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver's license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

About the American Red Cross

The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission. DRUMS of the WORLD

On Sunday, May 12, at 2:30 PM, the Schoolhouse Performance Series presents "Drums of the World", with Michael Fitzsimmons, percussionist and award winning composer.  This concert will feature rare instruments from Switzerland called Hang – reminiscent of the steel drums of Trinidad.  Incorporating the Hang with over 30 years' experience as a composer and performer, Michael has spellbound audiences with the beautiful, other worldly sounds of these unique and intriguing instruments.  Michael is a solo artist with the Nebraska Arts Council's Touring Program, performing in schools, communities, and corporate settings. As a master teaching artist with University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Arts Are Basic, and a resident teaching artist with Nebraska Arts Council, Fitzsimmons provides programs for music and story as a way of learning at many regional schools.   Michael is a leader of full day music workshops with G.A.T.E.(Grief and the Arts Training Experience) for therapists, school teachers, hospital teams, and individual groups. He is a skilled performer of diverse percussion instruments including drums, African instruments, Mbira (thumb piano), Plains Indian flutes, Brazilian percussion flutes, various bamboo flutes. The concert will be followed by a drum circle.  Michael's drum circles are a "hit" with young and old alike!

The concert will be downstairs in the Old Avoca Schoolhouse, and  followed by light refreshments, and a chance to chat and even jam with the performers.  Avoca is in southern Cass County, Nebraska, on the 13 C Spur,  one mile south of Highway 34.  Admission is $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for students and senior citizens, and $1.00 for children. Seating is limited. For more information, write to  Greenblatt & Seay, The Old Schoolhouse, P.O. Box 671, Avoca, Nebraska, 68307, or e-mail them at debby@greenblattandseay.com or call 402-275-3221.

The historic Old Avoca Schoolhouse was built in 1925, and has been the home of the Schoolhouse Performance Series since 1990.  Music lessons, workshops, fiddle camps, and field trips are offered by Schoolhouse residents, Greenblatt & Seay, and are available by appointment.
