Women, Are You Ready for Some Fun?
Recreational activities abound in Platte River State Park at the
'BOW', (Becoming an Outdoor-Woman)
event, April 29-30. If you enjoy being outdoors, but want to gain more confidence, this is the place for you!
No experience necessary! Workshops are tailored primarily to women who are beginners or just eager to improve their knowledge of outdoor activities. You will have the opportunity to gain skills in a comfortable environment and lodge in cabins.
The deadline to register for this workshop is Friday, April 21st.

Every community has that certain someone who is a ‘shining star’, a perfect example of the phrase, ‘good neighbor’. These people might or might not belong to any certain civic organization, group, or church, they might even be related to you, and they’re always willing to help whenever and wherever they see a need. Whether young or old, male or female, they unselfishly go through life, demonstrating the quality of good citizenship, caring for one another, with love of their fellow man and country, while never expecting any recognition for their deeds. It could be a neighbor, teacher, business person or couple who’s made a positive influence in the lives of others.

You can deliver your items to the Murray Christian Church, 304 W. Young Street, on Thursday, May 18th, between 3 and 8 p.m. If you cannot bring your items to the church, call one of the numbers below and we'll arrange to pick them up for you!

ATTENTION!!!
In order to make our carnival successful, we need around 100 volunteers. We are in great need for volunteers, especially the second shift of the night. The shifts run from 5:00-7:00 or 7:00-9:00. Please consider signing up for a shift, or encouraging any groups or Conestoga High School students to volunteer their time to this community event.
We are also looking for a few more donations. Primarily, we need more cakes/cupcakes for the cake walk and individual bags of potato chips. To sign up for donations or volunteer time, please go to the following:

THE KIDS NEED YOUR HELP!
Hunger is an evil thing. Without enough good food, you can't think clearly, your immune system becomes compromised and you can become sick more often. With Spring now here, they also need lighter clothing, shorts, short-sleeved shirts and tops, sundresses, etc.
When you donate to the Conestoga Backpack Program, the school staff sends food, hygiene and clean clothes home with more than 30 needy kids.
You may donate items at any time through May. There is a container at Cornerstone Bank, you may take items to Conestoga Elementary School, or call Jill, 402-660-3543, and she'll arrange to have your items picked up at your home.
It's easy to help. Each time you go to the grocery store, just pick up one extra item for the kids.
*Suggested food items should be somewhat easy for small children to open and prepare:
*Canned Goods,*Granola Bars,*Cereal,*Cereal Bars,*Mac & Cheese,*Tuna or chicken salad with crackers,*Fruit Cups, Bar Soap, Toothpaste/toothbrush, Shampoo/Conditioner, Clothes/Coats

Time to get outdoors for some camping and fishing! Head on over to Louisville, NE State Recreation Area on Highway 50.
You'll need a park permit to get into Louisville SRA, but the small $6 daily pass is well worth it. You can also get an annual permit with instructions below.
While you're at Louisville SRA, be sure to check out Greg McCubbins' LTD Outdoors Bait & Tackle Shop, phone 402-234-2516. Stop in to pick up a cold drink, sandwich, bait or camping supplies that you might have forgotten. A cool guy who might even tell you where the BIG ones are bitin'! (Well, maybe...)
Greg also plans to have live outdoor music throughout the summer. Bring your lawn chair and get set-up in the parking lot for the first outdoor concert featuring 'Lucas Minor and the Country Mile' band on Saturday, April 15th, at 6 pm, weather permitting.

Did you know that you can get a Nebraska Park Entry Permit and fishing permit online, or at the entrance gate to most state parks, sra's and even some gas stations? The fee for an annual permit for a Nebraska-licensed vehicle is only $31 and you can get another for your other car or truck for only$16. With the park permit on your windshield, (in the lower-left corner), you can enter any of the Nebraska Parks or SRA's through December 31st, as many times as you wish. A daily pass is $6. With so many nice parks nearby, the annual pass can really help save a ton of cash, especially if you and your family enjoy being outdoors.
Fishing permits are available online, too, for 1 or 3 days or for an annual permit and they make great gifts!

Junior Vet Camp
For students completing 2nd - 5th grades
The Oxbow Junior Veterinarian Camp is designed especially for children who have a passion for animals and veterinary medicine.
The 4-day camp includes many hands-on activities involving live animals, games and unique crafts.
Campers learn about veterinary tools, x-rays, body systems and functions, and important issues like animal over-population. In addition, they also get to practice activities like real veterinarians perform, including record-keeping and animal health exams.
At the end of camp, they perform a mock surgery, using all that they’ve learned. Campers get their very own set of scrubs and a stethoscope to take home.

I have a special attachment for this camp as I worked at Oxbow Animal Health for many years and this was a project I helped start. Any child who loves animals would love this camp.

.Plattsmouth Adult EducationAdds Job Skills and New Class Times
Plattsmouth Community School District Adult Education begins its 40th year with a new focus on College and Career Readiness. The Federal Government has charged all adult education programs with preparing students for college and the workplace. Plattsmouth is stepping up. PCSD will integrate job search, workplace skills, and college preparation into its GED, English language, and Adult Basic Education courses.
To meet this challenge, an additional class session is being offered on Thursday mornings.
Classes are offered Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday during the public school year at 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., at the PACE Center, 15508 2nd Ave. The PACE Center is located across from the high school to the west.

The following is an employment opportunity available to older adults in Cass County.
Experience Works is a national, non-profit organization funded by the US Dept of Labor to administer the Senior Community Service Employment Program, which assists people 55 and older in getting updated training to assist in returning to the workforce. This is a federally funded program and offers a no-cost employment service to older adults who qualify.
Once accepted into the program, individuals are placed in a training site in or near their community, where they gain on the job experience while working 20-21 hours/week at $8/hour.
We also help with skill assessments, computer training, resumes, cover letters, job search, etc.
The goal is that through the training and job search assistance we gain help older adults gain good jobs in or around their communities.
