Saturday, May 21, 2016
On this day we pay tribute to men and women who serve
the United States’ armed forces.

MURRAY VOLUNTEER FIRE & RESCUE

THE HOUSE on the CORNER
You may have driven by the little house on the corner of Davis Avenue and Young Street here, in Murray. Actually, this tiny home used to be the train depot that was formerly located near the railroad tracks about 3 blocks east of where it rests now.
Jerome Speck lives in the tidy, little home and told me that the sign he's holding in the photo is the original 'Murray' sign that used to hang from the side of the depot. He's currently in search of someone who would build a weatherproof box for the sign, so that he can attach it to his house, as it once was.
A neat, little bit of Murray history.

WHAT EXACTLY IS 'ALUMNI'?
'Tis the season of graduations and alumni gatherings. So 'what exactly does that mean to me', you might ask?
According to the dictionary “ an alumni is a group of former students or associates of a specific school, organization, college, or university.”
Many people attend several different schools, so they're an alumna or alumnus of each of these schools. You might not have graduated with friends from your favorite school, but, as long as you were a student there, you're one of this group called 'alumni'.
Be sure to contact the person(s) in charge if you are not on the mailing list yet. By contacting your school, someone should be able to put you in touch with the person or persons who coordinate the event.
Now, when you get that invitation, plan to attend. You will be welcome and, after all these years, your old friends will be happy to see YOU!

ARE YOU 55+
and
LOOKING FOR PART-TIME WORK?
The following is an employment opportunity available to older adults in Cass County.
Experience Works is a national, non-profit organization funded by the US Dept of Labor to administer the Senior Community Service Employment Program, which assists people 55 and older in getting updated training to assist in returning to the workforce. This is a federally funded program and offers a no-cost employment service to older adults who qualify. Once accepted into the program, individuals are placed in a training site in or near their community, where they gain on the job experience while working 20-21 hours/week at $8/hour. We also help with skill assessments, computer training, resumes, cover letters, job search, etc. The goal is that through the training and job search assistance we gain help older adults gain good jobs in or around their communities.
