“CASA Uncorked” Fundraiser a Success!
Cass County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program received a huge round of support from the Cass County community at large on April 22, 2016. The CASA Uncorked Wine and Beer tasting event was held at Slattery Vintage Estates in Nehawka, NE.
The fundraiser committee was chaired by Nikki Biesterfeld and Michelle Group. It was the organizations major fundraising event of the year. Approximately 105 people attended the “CASA Uncorked” event which generated more than $6500 profit from community sponsorships, ticket sales and donations to the organization. All proceeds from this event, benefit the Cass County CASA Program, a donor-supported volunteer organization whose mission is to offer court-approved volunteer advocacy for abused and neglected children. Cass County CASA I a 501©3 organization funded by public and private donations, grants and KENO funds.
The evening’s festivities included several games including Puncha Bunch and Heads & Tails bead game. Barb Wagner was the winner of the Puncha Bunch. Her prize was a Wheel barrel of Booze. The winner of the Heads & Tails game was Chris Westover whom received a basket donated by Hy-vee. The Dettmer family was the highest bidders from the basket donated by Midwest Hop Producers, LLC. Roy Hudson owner of Hudsker BBQ provided delicious BBQ meal. The Silver Wings Band was the event’s entertainment.
Cass County CASA works with children, whom are abused, neglected and often find themselves lost in the court system.
CASA advocates are appointed by the Judge. The advocates build a relationship with a child and speak on the child’s behalf as they make recommendations to the court. The following snippet sums up what CASA is really about: “I am for the child who’s had seven addresses in a single year. Because she is in foster care. Because her Father abused her. Because her Mother could not believe her. That is the child I am for. Because if I am, she will be half as likely to languish in foster care, and that much more likely to find a safe, permanent home. I am a volunteer child Advocate.”
Since April 2015, 16 volunteers and two staff have advocated for 48 children. Six children have been adopted and 15 children have been reunified with their parents. 26 more children cases have been opened. Through the efforts of its volunteers, Cass County CASA has saved the county approximately $22,150.
Special “Thanks” to the events Diamond sponsors: Scotty and Heidi Cline, Team Tenacious with Keller Williams. Other major sponsors were Fast Grass (W-M Farms), Johnson & Johnson (John Harper), Absolute Healthcare & Esthetics, Dr. Tina Scott-Mordhorst, Fontanelle Hybrids (Jason Zoz), Iske Crop Insurance (Rick Iske), Lipstick Stain Boutique, Louisville Family Dental, McCaul Homes, Pinnacle Bank, Reinsch, Slattery, Bear, & Minahan,P.C., The Law Offices of Johnson & Pekny, LLC, Wade Insurance (Diane Wade), Waterford at Woodbridge, Hy-Vee and Midwest Hop Producers, LLC, were other business participating in sponsoring the event.
