17th ANNUAL GREAT AMERICAN CLEAN-UP!
Keep Cass County Beautiful, (KCCB), an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, is announcing the launch of the 17th annual Great American Cleanup. Keep America Beautiful's Great American Cleanup is the country's largest community improvement program that kicks off each spring and engages more than 4 million volunteers in more than 20,000 communities nationwide.
The emphasis of the GAC program is from March 1- May 31, but cleanups can occur anytime during the year.
In 2014, KCCB provided supplies for 11 clean-ups in the county. Thanks to the hard work of 170 adult and youth volunteers and 427 hours of labor, 129 large bags of trash were collected in Cass County along with painting projects, weed pulling, tree and flower plantings.
Keep Cass County Beautiful will again provide trash bags and loan banners, safety vests, gloves and some pick-up tools (while supplies last) for clean-up events. KCCB will partner with local school groups, scouts, civic and church organizations to plan volunteer events that include litter clean-ups, special recycling events, planting red flowers for a "Grow Big Red" garden, increased recycling collections, tree plantings, clothing collections, and more.
We appreciate your efforts to lead a Great American Cleanup last year and hope you will consider organizing another GAC this year. "MESSIAH" OPENS LOFTE'S 39th SEASON
The Lofte Community Theatre in Manley announces that on Saturday, May 23 it will open its 39th season with the family dramedy, "Messiah on the Frigidaire." Written by John Culbertson, "Messiah" takes place in the small town of Elroy, South Carolina. Lou Ann Hightower and her husband Dwayne find what seems to be the image of Jesus appearing on an outdoor refrigerator. When the appearance makes front page news, their little trailer park soon becomes a mecca of communion and commerce.
Kevin Colbert directs the show with Brenna Thompson of Lincoln playing Lou Ann and Scott Seelhoff of Fremont playing her husband Dwayne. Others in the cast include Chelsea Lulla of Ashland, Michael Magrans and Dan Ryberg of Omaha, Jestin Jones of Lincoln, Denise Schroeder of Gretna and Will Jones of Manley.
Production dates for the show are May 23, 24, 28-31 and June 5-7. Curtain times are Thursday through Saturday at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2pm. Ticket prices are $19. Those interested can still purchase a season pass for all five of the Lofte's shows this year for only $75.
The Lofte is located just east of the intersection of Highways 1 and 50 in Cass County. Reservations can be made by calling the box office at (402) 234-2553.

'GODSPELL' AUDITIONS

LOFTE COMMUNITY THEATRE
The Lofte Community Theatre in Manley announces that it will be holding open auditions for the musical, "Godspell" on June 1, 2, and 3 at 7pm. "Godspell" is a fun, modern retelling of the Gospel According to Matthew. Popular songs include, "Day by Day," and "Prepare Ye."
This is a production that has a flexible cast size. Artistic Director Kevin Colbert is looking for men and women ages 16-40. Those interested in auditioning should bring a prepared song of no more than one minute in length and come dressed to dance. You should also bring a list of possible schedule conflicts. Auditions will last approximately 1-2 hours depending upon the number of people participating.
Rehearsals for the production will begin mid-June. Production dates are July 17-19, 23-26, 31 and August 1, 2. Those with questions about the production or the audition process may contact Kevin Colbert at (402) 234-2553. The Lofte is located just east of the intersection of Hwy 1 and Hwy 50 near the town of Manley.

Employer Seminars Announced
for
Nebraska Child Support Payment Center
Lincoln, Neb. (April 27, 2015) – The Nebraska Child Support Payment Center is hosting seminars in 13 Nebraska communities in the coming months for employers who remit child support payments on behalf of their employees, State Treasurer Don Stenberg announced today.
The seminars are offered by the Child Support Payment Center, a division of the Nebraska State Treasurer's Office, in conjunction with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. This is the 12th year of the seminars.
The one-hour seminars are free and are designed for employers who are just beginning to remit child support payments on behalf of their employees as well as for employers who have been providing this service for some time. Employers may register at https://childsupport.nebraska.gov/Employers/. Registration is required.
Stenberg said the seminars will focus on the steps for remitting child support payments electronically in addition to providing information on new hire reporting, verification and termination, and income and medical withholding and remittance. The Nebraska Child Support Payment Center, which has been a leader in promoting electronic payments, was ranked third in the nation in 2014 for the percent of child support payments received electronically.
"Efforts are underway to raise the state's ranking even higher by continuing to encourage employers to use electronic payments and to make the process easier for individuals who make payments," Stenberg said. "Greater use of electronic means to pay child support results in greater efficiency in the system, including speedier payments to custodial parents and lower processing costs for the state payment center."
Electronic payments also save money and make good business sense for those making the payments, resulting in lower costs for envelopes, postage, printing, and record-keeping, Stenberg said.

FIDDLE CAMPS
Registration is now open for the 2015 Schoolhouse Fiddle Camps, in the Old Avoca Schoolhouse, in Avoca, Nebraska. Deborah Greenblatt, championship fiddler, author of many fiddle collections, will help the campers get in touch with their inner fiddler. The course of study during the Schoolhouse Fiddle Camps will be designed specifically for the individual campers who sign up.
The June Camp (Monday, June 15 - Friday, June 19) is for folks who consider themselves beginners. The July Camp (Monday, July 13 - Friday, July 17) is for folks who consider themselves intermediate or advanced. Enrollment is limited to 10 fiddlers for each week, so that everyone will get individual attention.

FIDDLE and HARMONICA WORKSHOPS
Free fiddle and Harmonica workshops will take place on Saturday, May 23, at the National Homestead Monument in Beatrice, Nebraska. At 10 AM, there will be a FREE fiddle workshop led by championship fiddler Deborah Greenblatt. At 11:00 AM, there will be a FREE harmonica workshop led by multi-instrumentalist, David Seay.
These FREE workshops are part of a full day of fun and free activities during the Tallgrass Prairie Fiddle Festival, formerly known as the Monumental Fiddle Championship. Greenblatt & Seay are Master Artists with the Nebraska Arts Council, and participants in the Humanities Nebraska Speakers Bureau.

Experience Works is a national, non-profit organization funded by the US Dept of Labor to administer the Senior Community Service Employment Program, which assists people 55 and older in getting updated training to assist in returning to the workforce. This is a federally funded program and offers a no-cost employment service to older adults who qualify. Once accepted into the program, individuals are placed in a training site in or near their community, where they gain on the job experience while working 20-21 hours/week at $8/hour. We also help with skill assessments, computer training, resumes, cover letters, job search, etc. The goal is that through the training and job search assistance we gain help older adults gain good jobs in or around their communities.
