17th ANNUAL GREAT AMERICAN CLEAN-UP!

KCCBjpg

Keep Cass County Beautiful, (KCCB), an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, is announcing the launch of the 17th annual Great American Cleanup. Keep America Beautiful's Great American Cleanup is the country's largest community improvement program that kicks off each spring and engages more than 4 million volunteers in more than 20,000 communities nationwide.

The emphasis of the GAC program is from March 1- May 31, but cleanups can occur anytime during the year.

In 2014, KCCB provided supplies for 11 clean-ups in the county. Thanks to the hard work of 170 adult and youth volunteers and 427 hours of labor, 129 large bags of trash were collected in Cass County along with painting projects, weed pulling, tree and flower plantings.

Keep Cass County Beautiful will again provide trash bags and loan banners, safety vests, gloves and some pick-up tools (while supplies last) for clean-up events. KCCB will partner with local school groups, scouts, civic and church organizations to plan volunteer events that include litter clean-ups, special recycling events, planting red flowers for a "Grow Big Red" garden, increased recycling collections, tree plantings, clothing collections, and more.

We appreciate your efforts to lead a Great American Cleanup last year and hope you will consider organizing another GAC this year. Please contact me soon if you would like to reserve a supply of garbage bags, gloves, etc. If you are no longer the contact person for this information, please notify me.

Thank you for all you do to keep Cass County beautiful!

FIDDLE FABLES

Greenblatt & Seay's Schoolhouse Performance Series features championship fiddler/composer, Deborah Greenblatt, in "Fiddle Fables", on Sunday, April 12, at 2:30 PM, in the Old Avoca, Nebraska Schoolhouse.

With the help of her fabulous five-string fiddle Deborah Greenblatt explores some of the trials, tribulations, and lessons that fiddlers often have in common. There is advice for the beginner ("It Starts With Your Feet"), advice for the fiddler's families ("Have Mercy"), for the growing fiddler ("Shopping For a Fiddle Blues"), for the brave fiddler ("I'm Gonna Fiddle In a Contest"), as well as the fiddler who plays the viola ("Out of Fiddle, Out of My Mind"). There are also inspiring stories of real-life fiddlers ("Cactus Pete"), teachers ("Alice Johnson's Jig"), and students ("Mary Ann the Fiddler").

The concert will be downstairs, followed by light refreshments, and a chance to chat and jam with Greenblatt & Seay. Avoca is in southern Cass County, Nebraska, on the 13 C Spur, one mile south of Highway 34.

Admission is $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for students and senior citizens, and $1.00 for children. Seating is limited. For more information, write to Greenblatt & Seay, The Old Schoolhouse, P.O. Box 671, Avoca, Nebraska, 68307, or call 402-275-3221, or e-mail them at debby@greenblattandseay.com.

The historic Old Avoca Schoolhouse was built in 1925, and has been the home of the Schoolhouse Performance Series since 1990. Music lessons, workshops, fiddle camps, and field trips are offered by Schoolhouse residents, Greenblatt & Seay, and are available by appointment.
