FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Help food bank and set world record

OMAHA, Neb., June 20, 2014 –About 20 percent of Nebraska children are at risk for hunger.

To help feed these children, http://www.wearethepowerofone.org/volunteer">We Are The Power of O.NE is seeking volunteers for its city wide spaghetti feed on Sunday, Sept. 21, in an attempt to break a Guinness World’s Record for the most people fed in one sitting.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at various locations across the metro at various high schools and community centers. The organization has a goal of feeding 20,000 people in order to set the new world record.

The group hopes to raise $100,000 to benefit the Food Bank for the Heartland. Nearly 16 percent of Nebraskans reported at least one time within the past 12 months that they did not have enough money to buy food for themselves or their family.

Volunteers are needed to secure supplies, set up, serve up and clean up at the various sites. Organizers say they hope this event will bring people together in a fun and inclusive manner while raising awareness of food insecurity in our community.

“Omaha needs to be this, to do this and to get behind ourselves and retain the small town “do for one another camaraderie,” said Lin Leahy, president.

For more information on how to become a volunteer, please visit us on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/WeAreThePowerofONE or contact Lynne Reed at (402) 651.0490.

http://www.wearethepowerofone.org/volunteer">We Are The Power of O.NE is a nonprofit organization dedicated to feeding the Omaha metropolitan area through a one-day event where for one day no one in the Omaha area will go hungry.

FIDDLING BEE

Greenblatt & Seay proudly announce the Eighteenth ANNUAL SCHOOLHOUSE FIDDLING BEE.  This historical, hysterical event will take place on Sunday, October 12, at 2:30 PM, downstairs in the Old Avoca, Nebraska Schoolhouse.  In the Open Division, fiddlers will play a hoedown, a waltz, and a tune of choice.  There will also be other divisions of competition available for the adventurous fiddlers, including a Singing Fiddler's Contest, a Twin Fiddler's Contest, a Fee-Fi-Faux Fiddler's Contest (fiddle tunes played on any instrument other than a fiddle), and a Hocus-Pocus Contest (cross-tuning, sound effects, dancing, etc.), which will give fiddlers an opportunity to play tunes that are usually not allowed in any other contest.

Contestants can pre-register on line (http://www.greenblattandseay.com/schoolhouse_fiddling_bee_preregistration.shtml).

Admission is $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for students, and $1.00 for children.  Fiddlers and their back-ups are admitted for free.  The contest will be followed by a light snack and an acoustic jam session.

Lofte Theatre

“King O’ The Moon” Now Showing at Lofte

The Lofte Community Theatre has opened the family comedy-drama, “King O’ The Moon” on Saturday, August 30.  Written by Tom Dudzick, “King” is Part II in a trilogy loosely based upon his family life in Buffalo, NY.  Part I, “Over the Tavern,” was produced by the Lofte in 2009.  “King O’ The Moon,” follows the Pazinski family’s journey into the rebellious 1960s, just as Apollo 11 is about to land on the moon.  The family gathers together to remember their father, Chet and catch-up with each other in the midst of the Civil Rights movement and the Viet Nam War.

Directed by Kevin Colbert, the production has one actress reprising her role.  Cheryl Grimshaw again plays the strong Pazinski family matriarch, Ellen.  Joining her onstage as the rest of the Pazinski children are Joshua Smith of Plattsmouth, Eddie McGonigal of Omaha, Benjiman Pettiford and Kaitlan Scates-Pettiford both of Bellevue.  Meredith McAdams and Ed Cutler round-out the cast.

Production dates for the show are September 12-14.  Tickets are $19.  Curtain time on Fridays and Saturdays is 7:30pm.  Sunday matinees are at 2pm.  Reservations can be made by calling the Lofte box office at (402) 234-2553.
