A gush of bird-song, a patter of dew,
A cloud, and a rainbow's warning,
Suddenly sunshine and perfect blue ---
An April day in the morning.
ATTENTION!

Our community has been blessed the past several years with a few folks who have generously donated countless hours organizing Murray's 4th of July Celebration. A big THANK YOU to these dedicated people - Hilda, Gladys, Jerry, Sandy and Keith - and a small handful of others who have given us an event that our town has been known for and has been proud of.
Sadly, these fine people are going to be stepping down, due to the lack of help. NOW IS THE TIME for a few others to step up and help out by volunteering some time and talent to this event. If that doesn't happen, this year's celebration will most likely be the last big hurrah in Murray for this annual tradition.
Please talk to your spouse, neighbor, friend or grown children about teaming-up to help carry on this fun tradition every summer. If you have any fun ideas for activities, share them with your teammates and get the ball rolling. Just offer to help with one activity on this special day: to referee one oozeball game, oversee the Bingo games for a 2-hour shift, work a shift at the concession stand, work a registration booth for the parade, set up a sound system, organize a horseshoe tournament, etc. You don't have to do everything by yourself, but many people together can make something happen, right?
It's a time for celebrating our democracy and freedom! Volunteer - and do it with a happy heart!
Send your name and ideas to editor@MurrayNebraska.com and put '4th of July' in the subject line.
Let's keep a good thing going!

PLEASE! NO BURNING!
Many grass fires along with the high winds lately have been keeping Murray and surrounding fire departments very busy. It's much too dry to be starting any fires, even those in burn barrels. Also, PLEASE - DO NOT throw cigarettes out of your car!
THANK YOU!

CASS COUNTY CASA VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
We are currently recruiting CASA Volunteers for the upcoming training session scheduled in April 2014. We only train two classes a year, call and reserve your spot today.
What does a Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteer do? Each CASA volunteer is screened, trained and completes 30 hours of pre-service training. Once trained, CASA volunteers are assigned under the Juvenile Court jurisdiction to speak on behalf of a child to ensure the needs and interests of abused and neglected children are being met.
Who are CASA volunteers? Our active volunteers are individuals from our community who work part-time, full-time or are retired. Volunteers commit to one year with a child, but seldom leave a case until it has been terminated.
If I can't be a CASA volunteer, how can I help? In addition to training new CASA volunteers, we are also in need of administrative services support such as filing, data entry and making copies.
Your help directly benefits the Cass County CASA Program. A donor-supported volunteer organization whose mission is to offer court-appointed volunteer advocacy to children that are abused, neglected and often find themselves lost in the court system. Through Cass County CASA, these children are placed with advocates that speak on their behalf and know them well enough to make informed recommendations to the judge.
Please call Angie Neumiller, Executive Director at 402-296-9620 or email director@casscasa.org and become a CASA volunteer today.
