 HAPPY SPRING!

The Spring season begins tomorrow, March 20.  This month certainly came in like a lion, but there are signs of the season all around.  The iris are already poking their heads up and the robins' sweet melodies are filling the air.  Let's hope we can have a l-o-n-g beautiful springtime with gentle, soaking rains to end the dreadful drought and whisper soft breezes from crystal blue skies.  Get outside and enjoy it!

PLEASE! NO BURNING!

Many grass fires along with the high winds lately have been keeping Murray and surrounding fire departments very busy.  It's much too dry to be starting any fires, even those in burn barrels.  Also, do NOT throw cigarettes out of your car!

2014 MURRAY_GARAGE_SALES

The phone calls have already started about the Murray Garage Sales.

The Murray sales will be EVERY YEAR the weekend BETWEEN Mother's Day and Memorial DayThis year it's on Friday and Saturday, May 16 and 17.

The cost will again be $12 to have your sale put on the map, newspaper advertising, paper and ink for posted fliers. Please have your money turned in to me by Saturday, May 3rd.  This deadline helps me determine how many ads AND how many words I can use for those newspaper ads.  (The sooner the money is turned in, the more advertising I can do.)

If a youth, church or other NON-PROFIT group wishes to participate with a sale or concession stand, remember there's NO CHARGE to them, but a representative needs to let me know and I'll be glad to put it on the map.

I'm waiting to hear back from someone about picking up our leftover items again this year.  Last year volunteers from Hosanna Lutheran picked them up, so hopefully they'll want to again this year.  It was really appreciated, not only by them, but for us, as well.  You might want to start saving some good sturdy boxes for those items, as they requested before, because they do stack better than bags.  I'll be sure to let you know if we do get someone to pick them up.

Please feel free to forward this note to your other Murray friends and neighbors and maybe even print the form below and put it on your fridge or bulletin board as a reminder.  I'll also be leaving some forms in the post office and at Town Hall, too.

Thanks!
Pat

 2014-03-19 CONSTRUCTION

Starting the week of March 31, if you plan to drive on Highway 75 between Union and Nebraska City, you will probably need to add at least a half hour to your trip.

A six-mile stretch of highway south of the Union corner will be shut down until September while crews rebuild the road.

Either plan to detour west on Hwy 34 to Hwy 50, then south to Hwy 2, or go across the Plattsmouth toll bridge to I-29 and down the interstate.  The only other way is to drive much slower on the rocky, dusty, gravel roads and with possibly a lot more traffic and impatient drivers, they may become treacherous.

Plan accordingly, so you don't have to hurry!

BE SAFE AND THAT KEEPS OTHERS SAFE, TOO!

COMEDY, 'SELF-HELP', OPENS at MAHONEY STATE PARK

KBC Productions is now presenting the comedy production, 'Self-Help,' at the Kountze Theater in Mahoney State Park.

Written by Norm Foster, 'Self-Help,' tells of Hal and Cindy Savage who reinvent themselves as self-help gurus and relationship experts. When their own marriage starts to
take a nosedive and they find a dead man in their study, their professional status hangs in the balance. This is an adult farce with hilarious situations. Director Kevin Colbert suggests a PG-13 rating.

Kevin Colbert also stars in this production along with Brandy Palatas of Papillion as his wife. Stacy White and Shari Hoelker of Omaha, Jim Knierim of Louisville and Harold Scott of Lincoln round out the cast.

Performance dates are March 21-23, 28-30, April 4-6, 11-13, 18 and 19. Curtain times are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm. Sunday performances are 2 pm matinees.

Mahoney State Park is located off the interstate on exit 426. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children under 12. While some tickets are available at the door, you can call to reserve your tickets at (402) 944-2523 ext 7122. A valid park entry permit is required.

CASS COUNTY CASA VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

We are currently recruiting CASA Volunteers for the upcoming training session scheduled in April 2014. We only train two classes a year, call and reserve your spot today.

What does a Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteer do? Each CASA volunteer is screened, trained and completes 30 hours of pre-service training. Once trained, CASA volunteers are assigned under the Juvenile Court jurisdiction to speak on behalf of a child to ensure the needs and interests of abused and neglected children are being met.

Who are CASA volunteers? Our active volunteers are individuals from our community who work part-time, full-time or are retired. Volunteers commit to one year with a child, but seldom leave a case until it has been terminated.

If I can't be a CASA volunteer, how can I help? In addition to training new CASA volunteers, we are also in need of administrative services support such as filing, data entry and making copies.

Your help directly benefits the Cass County CASA Program. A donor-supported volunteer organization whose mission is to offer court-appointed volunteer advocacy to children that are abused, neglected and often find themselves lost in the court system. Through Cass County CASA, these children are placed with advocates that speak on their behalf and know them well enough to make informed recommendations to the judge.

Please call Angie Neumiller, Executive Director at 402-296-9620 or email  director@casscasa.org and become a CASA volunteer today.
