Snow is crunching under foot
And more is on the way.
Let's go snuggle up inside,
This frigid winter day!

 The cat is softly purring,
As the warm log fire roars.
So let's make some hot chocolate,
And stay right here indoors!

2013-11-20 gift_calendar

Some of the most wonderful gifts are those that do not cost a penny.

For 6 weeks, we're adding to the list of 'gifts' that anyone can give. You don't even have to wait for a holiday or special occasion to give these gifts and you'll be giving yourself 'the gift of giving'!

THE GIFT for WEEK #4:  THE GIFT of a GOOD DEED.

Do something nice for someone, just because.  Pick up groceries for an elderly or home-bound person.  Shovel someone's driveway or walk without being asked.  Take packages or mail to the post office for a friend.  Many grocery stores have 'bag it and carry it yourself', so help someone put their bags in their car, especially if they're elderly or have little ones they need to get buckled-up.  Make a phone call, just to let someone know you're thinking of them.  There are so many opportunities every day, but remember that you NEVER should do a favor just to get something in return.

Week #3:  THE GIFT of LISTENING.

You might hear someone talking, but are you really listening to what those words mean?  To truly listen, don't be thinking about your response, don't interrupt the other person or be distracted by watching tv, texting, etc., just listen.  How many times have you said to someone, 'Just listen to me?'.  Now it's your turn to give the GIFT of LISTENING.

Week #2:  THE GIFT of AFFECTION.

Appropriate hugs, kisses, a pat on the back and reaching for someone's hand can demonstrate your care, love and support for family and friends at a time when they might most need it.  Be generous!

Week #1: THE GIFT of a COMPLIMENT.

Give at least one person you meet each day a compliment. To a friend or co-worker say, 'that color looks good on you', or to a waiter, 'you're a wonderful server'. A parent would like to hear, 'your child is so well-behaved. You've taught them well' or you could tell a grocery clerk that she has pretty hands. Someone would even like to hear that they have a beautiful smile...maybe they'll smile more!  Surely you've heard that smiles are contagious!  What an awesome gift!  When you give a heartfelt compliment, YOU could be remembered for a lifetime!

A CAT was found in Murray late Monday night, December 9.  A caring person found it and brought it in out of the freezing cold.  If you're missing your pet, please send a description of it and I'll forward your information to the person taking care of your cat.

'Best Christmas Pageant Ever'

Now Showing at the Lofte!

Based upon the book written by Barbara Robinson, this is the story of the six rough-and-tumble Herdman kids who bully their way into the annual Sunday School Nativity play. The church ladies, the Reverand and even the volunteer fire department are sure this will be the worst Christmas pageant ever, but the Sunday School teacher remains stubbornly optimistic. The production is filled with youthful energy and a the true spirit of Christmas.

The production is directed by Kevin Colbert. Starring as the pageant director and her husband are Anne Pope and Scott Nielsen of Eagle. Their children, Charlie and Beth help to narrate the story, and are played by real-life brother and sister Noah and Tess Arent of Murdock. The Herdmans are played by Mia Thomas of Bellevue, Samuel Gauthier and Adeline Morgenson of Louisville, Talon Flodman and Gus Pope of Eagle and Xander Monson of Brock. In all, there are fifty-six people in the play. Forty-four of them are children!

The production will run December 12-15. Curtain times are at 7:30pm except for Sundays which are 2pm matinees. Tickets are $17 for adults and only $10 for children under 12. For reservations, please call the Lofte box office at 402.234.2553.
