In 1858 Clara Young purchased, for $55, a large parcel of land from the United States located between the Missouri River and what is now known as Murray.
As if going back through history in a time machine, the papers of the abstract hold many clues as to how streets and landmarks in our area came to be known. There is 'Young Cemetery', about 3 miles northeast of Murray and the 'Latta' name, the avenue on which the Murray post office is located.
A few years ago Kevin Smith purchased the former Geary Crom property in the rural Murray/Rock Bluff area. As all real estate owners do, Kevin received an 'Abstract of Title', or 'deed', to his new acquisition. The names above are only two of the many that are noted as land was divided and sold off by its' different owners over the past 150 years.
The abstract makes for interesting reading. An example is in the terminology used, "....thence following the meanders of said creek Westward about 10 chains to a point North 8*50'East one chain from a large Elm tree"..." thence South 27*45'E., 12.60 chains, to an old Elm stump on the East bank of a small creek" and "commencing at Three small Walnut trees on the South bank of Rock Creek in Sec. 13, Town 11, Rge 13; thence running West following the meanders of said Rock Creek 40 rods to a large Elm tree on the South bank of said creek..."
Do you have any before and after photos of your property or a story about your property you'd like to share? Is there a street or landmark named after someone in your family? Please forward these interesting facts so we can print it here.
It's good to know some of the history of where you live.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
We love you, Didi!

in Belmont, Mich., the company manufactures products for the construction and
fastener industries in the categories of concrete forming hardware and accessories;
rock and concrete anchor bolts; and post tensioning systems. The company expects
to hire a total 15 full-time employees. A deciding factor for locating in Wayne was
the availability of a 20,000 sq. ft. metal shell speculative building on 6.57 acres in

Bring Hope to Patients in Need

Donating Blood
through the
American Red Cross
The American Red Cross is calling on all eligible blood donors to roll up a sleeve and help save
a life by making an appointment to donate blood. During the summer, when blood donations tend
to slow, eligible blood donors are needed even more. Giving one hour of your time can give patients
extra days, months or even years with their family and friends. To a patient, time is everything – time
to laugh, time to live and time to love.
The need is constant. The simple act of donating blood can bring hope for patients in need and
their families. All blood types are needed, but especially O positive, O negative, B negative and
A negative in order to meet patient demand. Please schedule an appointment to donate blood
today.
The American Red Cross’ Live Life. Give Life. summer-long campaign is helping to raise aware-
ness about the constant need for blood and encourage regular donations.
Visit redcrossblood.org/GiveWin to learn more.
How to Donate Blood
Simply call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org to make an
appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply
for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license, or two other forms of identification are
required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental permission in
some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible
to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also
have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
