On Monday, July 9th, Conestoga High School had the honor of hosting The Boston Crusaders DCI Corps for their practice field location. DCI (Drum Corps International) is intense marching bands made up 16-21 year olds, performing brass, percussion and flags. There are 150-180 members in each corps.
The Boston Crusaders arrived at CHS about 7am, after a long 14-hour bus ride from Denver. Due to some vehicle problems enroute, the members were allowed to sleep for only a couple of hours. They took over the commons and stage and slept in classrooms. After a quick nap, they had breakfast, meeting, stretching and then broke up into sectionals. They worked in sectionals until 12:30 then came together as a complete unit, practicing until 2:45. The corps then had their ESL time (Eat, Shower, Load), then left at 4:45 to go to Millard South for competition.
The Crusaders' hectic schedule started out in California, up to the Northwest, down through Wyoming and Colorado, Nebraska, then Iowa. They will proceed to the south into Texas, across the southern states, up the East Coast, then to Indianapolis for finals on August 9-11.
Members and staff were very happy to be in Nebraska. They loved the environment and surroundings. They couldn't believe all the corn that was around them. Our own Conestoga Music Director, Dwight Rose, set a goal to make them feel welcome and they told him that they wished they could stay longer. Goal accomplished!
Multiple cities throughout the nation sponsor the corps who travels during the summer performing at competitions. The first time the Boston Crusaders have performed in Nebraska was last Monday evening at Millard South High.

"Almost, Maine" Auditions at Lofte
The Lofte Community Theatre in Manley announces that it will be holding open auditions on Sunday, July 22 and Monday, July 23 at 7pm.
The theater is looking for 10 men and 9 women ages 22-50 for their upcoming production of, "Almost, Maine." No experience is necessary. The Lofte welcomes all levels of theatrical skill.
"Almost," is a combination of stories that take town in a remote, mythical town in Maine. It's a cold, clear moonless night and as the northern lights hover above, the town's residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and sometimes hilarious ways.
Actors will audition using cold readings from the script. The production's director will be Kevin Colbert. Those auditioning should bring a list of possible schedule conflicts. Rehearsals will begin around the first of August. Production dates are September 1, 2, 7-9 and 13-16.

Blood Supply this Summer
While the Independence Day holiday will surely ignite many spectacular fireworks extravaganzas, the American Red Cross is counting on donors to spark the nation’s blood supply. The Red Cross reminds eligible donors that the need for blood is constant, especially during holiday timeframes – like Independence Day – when eligible donors have even less time in their busy schedules to give.
While all blood types are needed during the summer months, O negative, B negative and A negative blood types are currently in high demand because they potentially can be transfused to patients with Rh positive or Rh negative blood types. Type O negative, the universal blood type, can potentially be transfused to patients with any blood type.
The American Red Cross encourages all eligible donors to donate blood regularly this summer to ensure an adequate blood supply for patients in need.

This year we absolutely require an advance registration form (this form) to be submitted by Tuesday August 7th, 2012 at midnight CDT for each project to be considered by the judges on the submission deadline August 17, 2012 at 5PM CDT. When we receive this form you will receive an APR (Advance Project Registration) Number (via the email address you provide) within 24 hours and that will be your assurance that you are in the cue, and it will also identify this project for the purpose of questions, comments, and finally with your submission on or before August 17th, 2012 at 5PM CDT, judging and finally the awards on August 24, 2012 at 5PM CDT.
There is no obligation to complete your video, or to submit a video - you can change your mind at any point however pre-registration IS required for any submission to be considered by the Judges. There will be NO exceptions.
