Our New Senator, Paul Lambert, Welcomes New Opportunity to Serve

December 9, 2011, Lincoln— In October my public service career changed dramatically
when I was honored to receive the call from Governor Dave Heineman appointing me to
serve you as the next state senator from Legislative District 2. My service on the city council
and as mayor of Plattsmouth will provide a solid foundation serving constituents in my new
role as your state senator.

In just the past two months – during the special session – I have met hundreds of people
and gained knowledge about the legislative process that will give me a head start moving
into the next legislative session beginning in January of 2012. I really enjoy meeting and
working with new people, and that is important to be effective in the legislature. To those
of you who already know me, this disclosure will come as no surprise. To those of you whom
I have yet to meet, I hope you quickly realize that I am truly interested in learning about what
you think and what is important to you. As the people I represent in the legislature, you, the
citizens of District 2, are very important to me. I believe we will often agree on the issues
that affect our district and the entire state.  I was welcomed warmly by my colleagues when
the legislature convened in special session last month. I am getting to know the senators as
individuals and elected representatives of the people in their respective districts. Each senator
has loyalty to and responsibility for his or her own district, but that must be tempered with the
best interest of the entire state. Listening to your concerns while establishing trust and building
strong working relationships with my colleagues will be of utmost importance during the 2012
legislative session.

The work of state senators is supported by dedicated legislative personnel. Essential support
comes from the staff and offices that serve the legislature. I have met and worked with some
of these fine folks already. I know I will continue to benefit from their assistance to help me be-
come an even more effective member of the legislative body.

Each state senator has up two staff people to help with constituent services and assist with l
egislative responsibilities. Sherrie Geier is my senior legislative aide. Sherrie will soon begin
her 12th year with the legislature and many of you already know her from her work with my out-
standing predecessor Senator Dave Pankonin. This month Darlene Howsden came on board
as my administrative assistant. Darlene is new to the legislature and to state government. I look
forward to you having the opportunity to meet and work with her.

From an early age I learned to value hard work and respect public service. I know that my per-
formance as a state senator will require hard work from me and from everyone who provides
support to me. I thoroughly enjoyed my civic duties in Plattsmouth and I am energized by the
challenges that lie ahead for me as the new representative for our legislative district. It is said
that having goals gives one's life greater purpose. My primary goal will always be to leave our
district and this state better than I found it.

I am interested in hearing your comments by mail, phone or email.

“Dad’s Christmas Miracle” Playing at Mahoney State Park

KBC Productions is partnering with Eugene T. Mahoney State Park for its 19th winter theater
season with the winter production of “Dad’s Christmas Miracle”."  Written by Pat Cook, this
funny and heart-warming story revolves around Connor Murphy (Dustin Reckling Louisville)
who wants a go-cart for Christmas.  He and his pals, Tater (Peter Reckling Louisville) and
Neil (Matt Rothgeb, Omaha) try to get to the end of the school semester being good boys in
hopes of getting what they want for Christmas.  However, report cards and the annual Christmas
Pageant stand in their way.

Hysterical situations abound in this loving memory of Yuletide charm back when if you had a
dollar it was more money than you knew what to do with; if you had an hour to play, it seemed
forever, and the best time in the whole world had to be Christmas. Artistic Director Kevin Colbert
says, “This is great fun for the whole family!”
Other cast members include: Doug Rothgeb, (Omaha), Dave and Hope Hibler, Keylee Ezell,
(Manley), Andrew DeBrie, Emma Gauthier and Brenda Jones (Louisville).
The production runs December 16, 17, 18, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30.
Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:30PM and Sundays are at 2PM.
Ticket prices are $10 for Adults and $8 for Children 12 and under.
For reservations call the park at 402-944-2523 Ext. 7122.

Fulfill Your New Year’s Resolution to Give Blood

As 2011 draws to a close, many may reflect on the past year and the New Year’s resolutions
made nearly a year ago. If ‘help others’ was included on your list of resolutions, there is still time
to help patients in need by donating blood through the American Red Cross.
With your donation this month, the gift of a blood or platelet donation can make an even greater
difference. In honor of all December blood and platelet donors, a financial contribution will be
made to the American Red Cross annual holiday giving program.

As the new year approaches, take the time to give blood this month and remember to include
‘donate blood’ on your list of resolutions for 2012. Make an appointment today to make a difference
in the lives of others.

How to Donate Blood

Simply call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org to make an appoint-
ment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients.
A blood donor card or driver’s license, or two other forms of identification are required at check-in.
Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental permission in some states), weigh at least
110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students
and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight require-
ments.

About the American Red Cross

Governed by volunteers and supported by giving individuals and communities, the American Red
Cross is the single largest supplier of blood products to hospitals throughout the United States.
While local hospital needs are always met first, the Red Cross also helps ensure no patient goes
without blood no matter where or when they need it. In addition to providing nearly half of the nation’s
blood supply, the Red Cross provides relief to victims of disaster, trains millions in lifesaving skills,
serves as a communication link between U.S. military members and their families, and assists
victims of international disasters or conflicts.

"Christmas Survival Guide" Opens at Lofte

The Lofte Community Theatre in Manley is now showing its holiday Christmas musical,
"Christmas Survival Guide."

Written by James Hindman and Ray Roderick with music by John Glaudini, this

Armed with a copy of a new book, "A Christmas Survival Guide," the characters
charge into the holiday searching for the true meaning of the holiday.

Artistic Director Kevin Colbert described the show as a "Perry Como Christmas
special with lots of songs and comedy sketches that will keep audience members
entertained and laughing out loud."
Starring in the show are Brandy Palatas and Allison Tiller of Omaha; Dan Hendrickson,
Benjiman Pettiford and Cory Misek of Lincoln, Cynthia West Sheldon and Janet Sorensen
