Greenblatt & Seay proudly announce the
FOURTEENTH ANNUAL SCHOOLHOUSE FIDDLING BEE
This historical, hysterical event will take place on Sunday, October 10, at 2:30 PM,
in the auditorium of the Old Avoca, Nebraska Schoolhouse.
In the Open Division, fiddlers will play a hoedown, a waltz, and a tune of choice. There will
also be other divisions of competition available for the adventurous fiddlers, including a
Singing Fiddler's Contest, a Twin Fiddler's Contest, a Fee-Fi-Faux Fiddler's Contest (fiddle
tunes played on any instrument other than a fiddle), and a Hocus-Pocus Contest (cross-tuning,
sound effects, dancing, etc.), which will give fiddlers an opportunity to play tunes that are usually
not allowed in any other contest.
The prizes for the winners in the Open Division are $100 for 1st place, $50 for 2nd place, and
$25 for 3rd place. Prizes will also be awarded for 1st place in the other contests.
Registration for contestants starts at 1:30 PM the day of the FIDDLING BEE. Admission is
$5.00 for adults and $1.00 for children. Fiddlers and their back-ups are admitted for free.

Sightreading Workshop
A Sightreading Workshop is scheduled for Saturday, October 2, 2010,
from 1 PM - 3 PM in the Old Avoca Schoolhouse, in picturesque Avoca,
Nebraska.
This will be a wonderful opportunity to play with other music students, and
sightread music that you've never seen before, and don't have to ever see again.
During the workshop, musicians will be discussing how to negotiate new
compositions with minimum stress, and maximum music. The beauty of
this workshop is that all you have to do is show up!
There is no preparation necessary, although pre-registration
is required, and there is a $20.00 fee.

Auditions for Fall Farce at the Lofte
The Lofte Community Theatre will be holding auditions for its fall comedy, "Unnecessary Farce,"
on Monday, September 6 and Tuesday, September 7 at 7pm. No advance preparation is necessary.
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.
Written by Paul Slade Smith, "Unnecessary Farce" is a fast-paced, high energy comedy.
An embezzling mayor is trying to schedule a rendezvous with his beautiful assistant. Throw in a
couple of undercover cops, a hit man and various other over-the-top characters and you have the
recipe for fun.
Artistic Director Kevin Colbert is looking for four men and three women of various ages.
Performance dates are Oct 15-17, 22-24, 28-31. Questions about the audition or the production

OTOE COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY MEETING
OCGS will host its September meeting at 7:00pm on September 9th at the Morton-James
Public Library at 923 First Corso in Nebraska City.
Lincoln Family History Center director, Tina Wells, will give a presentation on 'Resources from
Family Search'. This presentation will cover how to utilize the Family History Center's resources
from not only the FHC's facilities, but from your home computer as well.

Nebraska Tops Several Rankings
Once again Nebraska has risen to the top of some key national rankings.
Nebraska ranked No. 6 as the nation's pro-business state, according to the 2010
Pollina Corporate Real Estate survey recently unveiled. The Pollina study evaluates
and ranks states based on 31 factors including taxes, human resources, right-to-work
legislation, energy costs, infrastructure spending, workers compensation laws, economic
incentive programs and state economic development efforts.

The Business Facilities magazine's national 2010 Rankings Report had Nebraska ranked
No. 2 as an Employment Leader; No. 4 on Quality of Life; No. 5 for Best Education Climate,
and No. 8 as a BioFuels Manufacturing Research Leader. This annual ranking's key metric
for 2010 was growth, among several other metrics.

CNNMoney.com recently released a chart comparing state debt per capita, and Nebraska's
ranked the lowest in the nation at $15. Second lowest was Iowa at $73.

Golfweek magazine course evaluators recently toured the Cornhusker State in search of
golf courses for its' "Best" listings. Wild Horse Golf Club in Gothenburg, a public course,
ranked No. 26 on the Golfweek's Best Modern list, and was stated as it "surely must be the
best value in U.S. golf". Other courses noted as must-plays include Dismal River near Mullen
and Sand Hills Golf Club, Mullen, both private courses, and the newly opened Prairie Club in

A couple of Nebraska's businesses and higher education institutions also topped rankings.
The Kearney-based retail chain The Buckle ranked ninth on Stores magazine's annual Hot 100
Retailers list. Also making the list was Sidney-based Cabela's.

The National Business Group on Health recently named Omaha-based Union Pacific as one of
2010's Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles. UP received the highest 'Platinum' ranking for
established workplace well-being programs with measurable success and documented outcomes.

southwest corner of the Murray Rural Fire Dept.'s parking lot the following dates:
