Briese Celebrates Able to Save Day
(Lincoln) August 14th, 2025, Treasurer Tom Briese joined with disability advocates across the country to national ABLE to Save Day. This day is dedicated to raising awareness about ABLE (Achieving a Better Live Experience) accounts, which are tax-advantaged savings accounts specifically designed to encourage persons with a disability to save for future qualified disability expenses.
These accounts allow eligible individuals to save money for disability-related expenses without jeopardizing their eligibility for public benefits. Federal legislation creating the plan was passed in August of 2015. Nebraska’s plan, the Enable Saving Plan was officially launched in July of 2016 and is available to participants nationwide.
“For our friends in the disability community, fiscal struggles can hit a little harder. With an Enable Savings plan, we are giving these folks a powerful tool to be able to handle some of life’s challenges,” Briese said.
Since its inception, Enable has reached more than $50 million in assets under management and more than 4,500 accounts. Throughout the next year, the Enable program will host a variety of events to mark the 10 years of this successful program.
Briese also encourages Nebraskans to make use of www.Givetoenable.com, a new, free-to-use crowdfunding website designed to help Enable Savings Plan owners to achieve a better life experience.
Anyone who donates on the Givetoenable.com crowdfunding platform and files a Nebraska state income tax return will be able to take advantage of up to a $10,000 Nebraska income tax deduction ($5000 for married taxpayers filing separately). Contributions made to an Enable account from the website will count towards the annual $19,000 contribution limit.
Give To Enable will allow participants to raise needed funds through donations from family, friends, and others, similar to sites such as GoFundMe or Kickstarter. Funds donated through Givetoenable.com will go directly into the individual account owner’s Enable account and will not impact their benefits unlike a traditional crowdfunding webpage.
Enable is also excited for a huge expansion of individuals who are eligible to utilize this tax-advantage plan. Effective Jan 1, 2026, the ABLE age adjustment will take effect, which will allow ABLE accounts nationwide to increase the age of the onset of the disability for eligibility from 26 to 46. This will open ABLE accounts to an estimated additional 8 million more Americans, including veterans.

PLEASE READ:
The CORNHUSKER COUNTRY MUSIC THEATER in LOUISVILLE is in the old movie theater location on Main Street, across from the Pinnacle Bank.
The building was generously donated to the Country Music Club back in the mid-70's, with the stipulation that they highlight country music that is more than 30 years old, (so anything before 1995), at least twice a month. This was to show an appreciation for, and to keep the origins of classic country alive.
Our building is old and needs some much-needed repairs and updating, especially the roof and acoustic- buffering on the auditorium walls. Like many other nonprofits, the CCMT is struggling to keep our heads above water and would appreciate your attendance and support in helping to accomplish our goals.
If you're a musician, would you consider donating your time and talent to do a show, please? We welcome full bands, solos, duets and any genre of 'country', i.e. honky-tonk, western, folk, bluegrass, etc. We have a large, plug-n-play, barn-style stage for your enjoyment, and a dance floor. Being a struggling nonprofit, we don't have funds to pay you for your time, but please accept our sincere gratitude for your generous donation of yours.
We're family-friendly and very affordable, too! We welcome young people to discover and, hopefully, encourage them to appreciate classic country music! Kids under 12 get in free, with an accompanying adult. We don't serve alcohol, but have a well-stocked concession stand! Our auditorium also has the original theater-seating, too!
The show on Sunday, September 7th, (see the flyer below), is a trial-run for possibly more Sunday afternoon shows when daylight-saving time ends. We also have Saturday evening shows twice each month, as well as two jam sessions, one acoustic, one electric, a couple of times each month, so bring your instrument and come on over!
We're also needing volunteers, other than musicians, to help keep this running. We'd love to see the younger generations get involved and we welcome your ideas! Volunteering like this helps to keep our small towns and villages alive and thriving!
If you're interested, have some good ideas, or want more info, just whistle! Check out our webpage at www.https://cornhuskercountry.com, drop us a note at cornhuskercountrymusic1@gmail.com, or you can call Larry at 402-949-0668.
Please mark your calendars for September 7th, then bring your friends and hop on over to Louisville for a great afternoon of some good ol' country music! See ya then!

New hours are shown below.
Better hurry over and check it out.

Dear Readers,
We want to build an online history about Murray.
Please submit any information you might know about our town to start creating this project.
If you own a business, let us know when you started and any informaton about the building and/or business located there before yours. Do you know the little gray building, CJ's Hair Salon, on Main Street used to be an ice cream shop? Do you also know that the Murray Christian Church used to be located just east of the Murray Repair Shop? In the early 1900's Murray's Main Street was devastated by a fire. Have you heard any information about that time that's been passed down from your ancestors?
You can also send information about your house - when it was built and any background about it. Was it one of the first homes in town? Is it haunted? What do you know about it? There's a little house in town that used to be the old railroad depot! Do you know where it is now, or that the old Murray Elementary School's mascot name was the Mustangs?
Any information would be helpful. Please send photos, too, if available! Photos should contain people's names and location and any other helpful information. This should become a fun, educational and informative piece of history that will continue to grow, and one that we're all building together! Thanks for your help!
Email your information to:
