REMINDER...Do you know that you can sign up for automatic withdrawal to pay your water/sewer/trash? That means one less check to remember to write and will help to eliminate one more trip to drop off the payment. Contact our Town Clerk, Shelli, 402-235-2119, at Town Hall, for the details.
Also, please contact Shelli to see if your water meter needs to be updated. She'll have a record of when, or if, it's already been done. If needed, it only takes about 20 minutes, however an adult has to be present in the home while the maintenance crew changes out the meter. Appointments are available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. If needed, evening or weekend times could be worked out.
Thanks for your cooperation!

Treasurer Murante Elected National Chair of State Financial Officers Foundation
Lincoln, Neb.– Nebraska State Treasurer John Murante this week has been elected as the 2022 National Chair of the State Financial Officers Foundation (SFOF). SFOF is a nationwide non-profit that works with state treasurers, state auditors, and other financial officers to educate the public about financial public policy. Murante’s term, which coincides with the 10th anniversary of the SFOF is one year and will begin in October.
In Murante’s first year as State Treasurer he put forward several legislative initiatives promoting Nebraskans’ access to higher education through innovative college savings incentives. Working with a bipartisan coalition of State Senators, the Unicameral passed landmark legislation creating the Meadowlark Program, in which all children born in Nebraska on or after January 1, 2020, are enrolled in the NEST529 college savings program at birth.
Under Murante’s leadership, contributions to the NEST529 college savings plan have rose dramatically and unclaimed property claims skyrocketed, paying the most claims in 2019 since 2013.
Murante also hosted the Smart Women Smart Money event in November of 2019, a unique initiative which drew hundreds of participants to the Omaha area to discuss financial literacy in both small and large group settings.
This past year, Murante helped lead the effort to pass legislation establishing financial literacy courses in Nebraska elementary and high school curriculum. In addition, working with the Nebraska Council on Economic Education, his office created and hosted a first of its kind financial wellness webinar series aimed at public employees.
“It is a great honor to be selected to this position. I want to thank my colleagues, made up of some of the foremost financial officers from around the country, for the confidence they have in me to steer this wonderful organization. SFOF is leading the way in creating fiscally responsible public policy, something that speaks to me as a former small business operator,” Murante said. “I look forward to bringing Nebraska commonsense and fiscal values to the SFOF as it continues to be at the forefront of fiscal policy making around the country.”
“Treasurer Murante has proven himself a bold leader and true public servant. His efforts to improve treasury services including NEST529, unclaimed property, and financial literacy alone has proven his leadership.“His office has become the gold standard for bringing financial literacy issues and real solutions to the forefront,” said Derek Kreifels, President of the State Financial Officers Foundation.

All children need a secure place to learn and grow. The ideal place should be in their own home, however many kids are not that fortunate.
In times of neglect or abuse, a child must sometimes be removed from their home at a moment's noticed and placed in a warm, safe place. Kids of all ages, from birth through high school, sometimes need the help of the Child Saving Institute.
CSI helps foster parents and biological families learn the skills they need for a safe, well-cared-for, and loving family life.During this unsettling time of covid-19, the Murray Christian Church is collecting essential cleaning items for the Child Saving Institute.
If you would like to donate, here are some things they could use:Pine Sol, Lysol Disinfectant Spray, sanitizing wipes, latex and powder-free disposable gloves, (L & XL), and hand sanitizer.
Please bring items to Murray Christian Church, 304 W Young St, Murray, NE on Wednesdays, Thursdays or Fridays, between the hours of 10 - 2:00. You may call the church ahead of time, 402-235-2527, to be sure someone will be there to assist you.
Thank you for helping to keep these children, (and the CSI staff), healthy and happy!

The Conestoga Backpack Program continues to furnish food to local families in need. The program serves the Murray, Nehawka, Union and Beaver Lake areas in southeast Nebraska, and will not turn anyone away.
Just by adding a few of the items listed below to your shopping list and picking them up, you'll be helping someone in a big way. Keep in mind that some of the children are very young and are possibly 'preparing' their own meals, so easy-to-open containers are a good option for little hands.
Granola bars
Fruit snacks
Dry pasta
Spaghetti sauce
Dry soup mixes
Canned meat (chicken, tuna)
Boxed prepared meal kits (Hamburger Helper, Rice-a-Roni)
Peanut butter
Jelly
Canned fruit and vegetables
Also needed are hygienic supplies, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, cotton swabs, tissues and toilet paper.
To make a monetary donation instead, a check made payable to 'CONESTOGA BACKPACK PROGRAM' may be mailed or deposited at Cornerstone Bank, 102 W Main St, Murray, NE 68409. 100% of all monies collected is used for food and hygienic supplies for the families.
To have the items picked up, call Jill at 402-660-3543 to make arrangements. As another alternative, you may drop them off at Cornerstone Bank in Murray or at their Beaver Lake location.
Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
